Teaching in the Library

Reading for Pleasure

Star of the Sea College values reading for recreation, personal growth, and meeting academic potential.

The Sr Josepha Dunlop Library aims to nurture and support a whole school reading culture. We ensure the development and practice of good reading habits by delivering a reading-for-pleasure program for Year 7 and 8 students that encourages and supports a lifelong love of reading.

Research

Our teacher librarians guide students through research tasks, ensuring that they make full use of the library’s extensive digital and physical non-fiction collection. These research lessons, complemented by the library team’s digital study guides, aim to develop and consolidate our students’ information literacy knowledge and skills. Students are taught how to create reference lists and in-text citations.

Digital Literacy

Our digital literacy specialist builds and enhances the school community’s digital literacy through engaging classes and professional learning opportunities designed to produce confident and skilled users of technology.
