Library Curriculum

The reading life of each Star student is a focus and priority at the College. We ensure the development and practice of good reading habits by delivering a program that monitors each student, encouraging and supporting them to develop a lifelong love of reading.

‘We ensure the development and practice of good reading habits by delivering a program that monitors each student, encouraging and supporting them to develop a lifelong love of reading.’

Students in Years 7 and 8 participate in a teacher librarian-led reading program, supported by their class English teacher and the Reading Rewards Program.

Informational and digital literacies are embedded in subject areas and are explicitly taught across the curriculum by teacher librarians in collaboration with classroom teachers. Digital citizenship is embedded in specialised programs, which are articulated in and through student pastoral wellbeing programs, as well as academic learning programs.

The Star of the Sea College Libguides is the library website where content is curated for intended learning outcomes. It is produced by library staff as a delivery vehicle for specific learning resources in dedicated areas. These guides are used by students as part of their learning resources in that topic or subject area, and are significant in providing targeted content and scaffolded learning pathways.
