At the end of each year, the students who will lead the College in the year ahead take part in a podcast workshop facilitated by LIVE FM. This year’s project was made possible through an inspiring one-day workshop led by Ralph Barba, Executive Producer at LIVE FM.
Throughout the day, students explored the power of their individual voices through a series of team-building and creative activities. These included speed interviewing, peer reflection and exercises designed to help students recognise the strengths within their group.
One particularly powerful moment came when students were asked to name the strengths they saw in one another. Many were deeply moved by the responses, fostering a strong sense of mutual respect and confidence. The experience not only equipped students with practical interviewing and storytelling skills but also empowered them to recognise the value of their own voices and perspectives as leaders.
By the time our guest speakers arrived for their recordings, the transformation was clear. Each guest commented on the students’ professionalism, thoughtful research and insightful questioning. The result was five remarkable interviews that are both inspiring and thought-provoking — a testament to the leadership potential within every student.
The students had the privilege of interviewing an extraordinary group of leaders:
- Madeleine Buchner OAM – Founder and CEO, Little Dreamers
- Jaimee Krawitz – Founder and CEO, Hide N Seek Foundation
- Tess Lloyd – Australian Olympian (2020) Women’s Skiff and Star of the Sea Class of 2013
- Dr Chelsea Hyde – Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Educational Psychology, University of Melbourne
- Paulie Stewart – Australian singer-songwriter and long-time advocate for the freedom of East Timor and West Papua
As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, excerpts from these podcasts were shared with the Year 11 and Year 12 cohorts during their wellbeing sessions. Student interviewers introduced their guest and reflected on the key insights they gained through the conversation, highlighting themes of leadership, resilience and the power of using your voice to create change.
The project not only produced a series of compelling interviews but also provided our future student leaders with a meaningful opportunity to connect with inspiring changemakers and reflect on the kind of leaders they aspire to become.
