WELCOME TO STAR

Star of the Sea College offers a contemporary, values-based education that nurtures the development of the whole person. We instill in our students a strong sense of connectedness, a deep commitment to their faith, and a belief in their potential to succeed.

Guided by our motto, Facta non Verba (Deeds, not Words), we inspire students to strive for excellence through purposeful action, not only for their own growth but in service to the broader community and beyond.

TOUR STAR OF THE SEA COLLEGE

We take great pride in our 141-year tradition of providing exceptional education in the Bayside area. We warmly invite families to join us for a tour of Star of the Sea College, where every student is valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. Today we celebrated the outstanding achievements of our incredible students at our Academic Awards Assembly. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence of our high-achieving VCE students.

A special congratulations to our 2024 Dux, Alyssia Vais, whose exceptional results are a testament to her hard work and commitment to her studies. Alyssia inspired our students with valuable insights on what students need to do to achieve their very best.

We also acknowledged the efforts of all students who achieved academic excellence and those who continue to strive for their personal best. Their dedication embodies the spirit of learning at Star. Congratulations to all of our award recipients!

Thank you to parents, family and friends who joined us for the assembly and shared in the celebration over morning tea.

Last week, our Year 12 students gathered at Sandringham Yacht Club for their Reflection Day, reconnecting after the holidays with warmth and excitement—you would have thought they hadn’t seen each other in six years, not six weeks!

We were privileged to hear from Laura John, a former student of a Kildare Ministries College. A human rights lawyer, feminist, and Chair of the Victorian Board of the Women's Legal Service, Laura spoke passionately about her work defending the rights of refugees. Her inspiring address left a lasting impact, with many students expressing how fortunate they were to hear her story.

Throughout the year, other year levels will also take part in Reflection Days—important moments to pause, reflect, and grow.

We wish our Year 12 students the very best as they embark on this important final year at Star.

Last Friday all students shared in a enriching experience with Jaeden Williams, a proud Yalukit Willam man of the Boonwurrung. Jaeden is the founder and director of Biik Bundjil which is a Boonwurrung educational organisation focused on embedding Boonwurrung culture into modern society.

Jaeden welcomed the students to Country and was joined by Paul Kelly, a proud Gunditjmara Kirrae Whurrong man, who played the didgeridoo to students. The students walked by the Smoking Ceremony and were farewelled by Jaeden and Paul.

Sarah (Year 9) reflects. "It was a great opportunity to learn about Aboriginal culture. We listened to some traditional Aboriginal music, learned some words in an Indigenous language and watched a Smoking Ceremony. It was fascinating to see these traditions in action and understand their significance. Overall, it was a very engaging, interactive and meaningful experience."
