We're excited to announce Star of the Sea College's Giving Day for 2023!

GIVING DAY - WEDNESDAY 14 JUNE 2023

This year, Star's Giving Day supports our Bursary Program.

Star's Bursary Program is life changing. It supports students in our community who are most in need, giving them the opportunity to receive the gift of a Star of the Sea College education.

This year our goal is to raise $100,000 so we can continue to extend our support to deserving students and their families.

We invite our incredibly generous Star Community to donate to this year's Giving Day and help make a difference to the lives of many.

All donations will be doubled by our generous matching donors. So, if you donate $50 it automatically becomes $100!

Donations of any size will be gratefully received and can be made at any time prior to Giving Day.

To donate please visit www.charidy.com/sots and help us achieve our goal of $100,000

Thank you!

It was with great excitement that our Year 7 State champions flew to Sydney on Monday morning for the National Final of the Kids’ Lit Quiz (KLQ).

Held at the State Library of New South Wales, students Mila, Lily, Eliza and Gabriella were up against the best of Australia in the sport of reading. They were cheered on by fellow KLQ state finalists Ruby, Nell, Beatrice, and Ruby.

Despite putting in a valiant effort, our Victorian champions did not prevail on the day. They did, however, thoroughly enjoy the competition and were proud of their achievements.

As a fitting reward, afterwards, our proud finalists visited the Sydney Botanic Gardens and savoured delicious gelati on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Ms Austin and Mr Pearson look forward to entering Star of the Sea College in next year’s KLQ competition. Students are encouraged to continue to read for pleasure. It's amazing the places reading will take you!

In 2023, 14 Star of the Sea College students are participating in The Smith Family's 'student2student' reading program supporting primary school readers that require additional support.

Over an 18-week period, our students will become reading buddies, contacting the young readers two to three times a week for at least 20 minutes, using the skills learnt in their training to assist with reading and to offer encouragement and praise.

The Smith Family report that 96% of the young readers improve because of this ongoing support.

We are very proud of these wonderful students for making a significant commitment to help others. Thank you to Belinda from The Smith Family for coming to Star to run lunchtime training for our students.

This commitment is a great example of our 2023 theme, 'Ignite Courage - Create Change' and our school motto, 'Facta non Verba' - 'Deeds not Words'.
