Sport-leadership Opportunities
Students at Star enjoy a range of sport-leadership opportunities for committed Years 10 and 11 athletes. Applications are emailed to Years 10 and 11 students in Term 3 each year.
Sport-leadership Requirements
- Coaching: Coach at least one sport per year
- Carnival Sports: Train and compete for Star in at least one sports carnival (Swimming, Diving, Cross Country, Athletics, Aerobics or Gymnastics)
- House carnivals (Swimming, Diving, Athletics, Triathlon): Assist at all carnivals and prior to the day with preparation and set-up
- Co-operation: Work with the House Sport Coordinator to increase involvement and develop activities
- Represent the school and be a role model: Wear the correct uniform and behave appropriately, acting as a role model for the younger year levels
- Make a change: Through regular meetings and activities, you can make a difference and leave a legacy at Star
- Meetings: Attendance at all sport leadership meetings is required (approximately two per term)
- Special duties: Assist in preparing and running the annual Sports Gala Night.
Captains of Sport Role
- Communicate with the Head of Sport and House Sport Coordinator throughout the year
- Assist at tryouts and coach one of the junior or intermediate teams
Aims and Expectations
- Reduce the dropout rate of students from sport (particularly in the senior school)
- Encourage as many students as possible to get involved in school sport
- Be a role model to your peers and younger students
Senior Sport:
- As a sport leader, it is expected that you represent Star in at least two sports per year
- Most senior sport is played on Mondays (morning and afternoon)
- Commitment to your sport-leadership role is crucial
