A Celebration of Music, Community and Tradition
Last Thursday evening, the Patricia Carroll Auditorium was filled with music, joy, and a profound sense of community as Star of the Sea College marked the 30th Anniversary of Stacella with a spectacular concert.
From its humble beginnings in 1995 under founder Peter Faulkner, Stacella has grown to include 135 students across all year levels, alongside the Star Community Choir and a strong past student network. The Gala Concert was both a showcase of extraordinary talent and a celebration of the friendships, confidence, and sense of belonging that Stacella has fostered for three decades.
Highlights of the Night
The evening began with a moving joint performance of Sisters of Winter by all Stacella singers and the Community Choir. Each year level then took to the stage with powerful and polished performances, from Year 7’s heartfelt rendition of Somewhere Only We Know to the Competition Choir’s dynamic Birds of a Feather.
Special guest performances included the Star Community Choir’s uplifting I’ll Be There and, in a deeply nostalgic moment, the Past Students Reunion Choir returned to perform Woyaya (We Are Going) — a song first introduced by Peter Faulkner in Stacella’s early days and now a cherished anthem across generations of singers.
The night concluded with all performers uniting for a rousing finale of Flashlight, capturing the spirit of unity and joy that defines Stacella.
Honouring Legacy and Leadership
Awards were also presented, recognising outstanding student contributions and leadership within Stacella, including the Rosalie Jones Award, the Peter Faulkner Award, and the announcement of the Stacella Captain for 2026.
In their reflections, both Principal Mary O’Connor and Head of Stacella Annemarie Sharry spoke of the immense impact that singing has had on student wellbeing, confidence, and lifelong friendships. They also expressed gratitude to the dedicated music staff, production team, and past leaders who have nurtured Stacella over the years.
Concert-goers also enjoyed the 30 Years of Stacella Exhibition, which highlighted the choir’s rich history through uniforms, photographs, programs, awards, and treasured memorabilia.
A Fitting Celebration
The 30th Anniversary Stacella Concert was more than a performance — it was a testament to the enduring power of music to connect people across generations. Star of the Sea College thanks our students, families, staff, past students, and friends who joined us for this milestone celebration.
